Rotarians hear of WWII hero in the Philippines

Bennettsville Rotarians saluted all American veterans during their weekly luncheon meeting Tuesday at The Skye.
Guest speaker was Mrs. Mary Godlesky of Newton Road, McColl, who told the story of her late father-in-law Roy Bell, an American Presbyterian missionary  and professor at Silliman University in the Philippine Islands and his family when World War II began.

Big step for Marlboro County

Northeastern Technical College’s future Marlboro County Campus is moving closer to becoming reality, as signage was installed last week. The campus will occupy the former Winn Dixie building, located at Highway 9 and Oakwood Street in Bennettsville.

County council concludes strategic planning sessions
Marlboro County Council held the last of three strategic planning sessions Tuesday, November 14, in conjunction with its regular monthly meeting.
Council pursues strategic planning every few years to establish a “road map” for staff to follow in order to improve on quality of life for county residents, said County Administrator Ron Munnerlyn.

New Brownsville fire station opens
The Blenheim Rural Fire District celebrated the opening of its new Brownsville Fire Station Wednesday afternoon, November 8, with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The new station is located at 5222 Screw Pin Road, just off Highway 38 South. It replaces an old wooden structure that had served the community for nearly 30 years, and is one of five stations that serve the Blenheim fire district.

Haltiwanger crowned Miss Marlboro Academy
On Saturday, November 4th, thirteen young ladies vied for the coveted title of Miss Marlboro Academy 2018.  The 49th annual gala centered upon the theme “Once Upon A Time,” celebrating Walt Disney and the Disney princesses.  
Emmie Beck, Brittany Branch, and Jessica Sides served as producer and directors, respectively, of this year’s pageant.  Crystal McInnis served as choreographer, and master of ceremonies was Dr. Scott Andrews.
