Marlboro County is starting to see the benefits of a solid waste fee approved by county council during the most recent budget process and included on this year’s tax bills.
The $40 solid waste fee was placed on the tax bills for all dwellings in the unincorporated areas of the county. This is expected to generate around $300,000 annually and is intended to fund efforts to clean up the county, including the hiring of a work crew supervisor, enhancing existing convenience centers, supporting community clean-up efforts, and educating the public.

This week, the Marlboro County Board of Education voted to vacate Bennettsville Intermediate School over the Christmas holidays, moving fifth graders to Clio and grades three and four to Marlboro County High.
That happened at the regular monthly board meeting Monday by a 6-1 vote, with two members abstaining (defined as declining to vote either for or against a motion).
