Frigid weather poses threat to strawberry, other fruit crops
Spring may be just days away, but winter hasn’t left us yet. That’s especially evident in the northeastern United States, where Winter Storm Stella this week dumped more than three feet of snow in some areas, stranded travelers and left thousands without power.
It’s also evident at McArthur Farms in Bennettsville, where row covers have been placed over most of the strawberry crop in a last-ditch effort to preserve as much of the fruit as possible in light of this week’s frigid forecast.

Columbia City Ballet will present “Beauty and the Beast” at the Marlboro Civic Center on Tuesday, March 21, at 7 pm.  The audience will not only see professional dancers from across the globe but also several local dancers.  Those dancers will include: front - Vedah Rose Dial; back row (left to right) Aubree Oxendine, Larah Springs and Chloe English.

At the National At-Risk Dropout Prevention Forum held February 19-22, at the Embassy Suite-Kingston Plantation at Myrtle Beach, Clemson University’s College of Education National Dropout Prevention Center awarded Marlon Eugene Prince, of Bennettsville, the National Dropout Prevention Specialist Certificate and Award for having completed the professional development requirements of the National Dropout Prevention Network fifteen dropout prevention strategies.

Life is about to get a lot more convenient for people living in Blenheim and passing through the tiny town on their way to the beach.
Parker’s Pit Stop is tentatively scheduled to open next Wednesday. Workers this week are busy putting the finishing touches on the store, which will offer a full kitchen in addition to Shell brand gasoline and diesel fuel and all the typical convenience store items that shoppers would otherwise have to travel miles to get.

Another great production is coming to the Marlboro Civic Center. This spring's presentation is the classic "A Doll's House" by Henrik Ibsen. Written in 1879, "A Doll's House" helped establish Ibsen as a "great playwright". It was praised for the naturalistic dialogue and plot uncommon at the time.
