Herndon selected as southeastern winner of High School Spirit award
Marlboro County High School junior Chandler Herndon is one of eight sectional winners of the National High School Spirit Award.  He was recognized Tuesday during a pep rally at the school.  The section winners will now compete for the national championship.
Through this award, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) seeks to recognize individuals who exemplify the ideals of the positive spirit of sport that represent the core mission of education-based athletics.  
According to MCHS principal Dr. Mark Bunch “Chandler fits that bill perfectly.”

Bulldogs fall to Myrtle Beach in home finale
Marlboro County hosted its final home basketball game of the season Tuesday night, with the Bulldogs falling to Myrtle Beach in two games.
The story was familiar for the boys' team, who held a lead late in the third quarter but melted away in the final minutes.  Myrtle Beach pulled away for a 50-43 win.

NETC opts out of old BES site

Northeastern Technical College no longer plans to use the former Bennettsville Elementary School site for an industry training center it has been working toward for several years.  Dan Bozard, chairman of the NETC board of directors, made that announcement to members of the Marlboro County Board of Education at their regular monthly meeting Monday.

Legislative breakfast held
The Marlboro Chamber of Commerce sponsored a legislative breakfast Monday morning at The Skye in downtown Bennettsville.  State House members Patricia Henegan and Jackie Hayes, plus senator Gerald Malloy gave brief remarks and visited with those in attendance.  Congressman Tom Rice also had a member of his staff on hand.  In the photo, Rep. Henegan addresses the group.
