The Marlboro County Coordinating Council, under the leadership of Chairman Patricia Henegan, SC House of Representatives District 54, hosted a free Community Health and Wellness Fair Thursday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bennettsville Community Center.

Marlboro County Economic Development Partnership offered local industry, business and civic leaders the  opportunity to ride on the Marlboro County-owned railroad last Thursday.  Several tours showed how the Pee Dee River Railroad serves Mohawk’s Oak River Site, Hanson Aggregates,  and Domtar’s Marlboro Mill.

Looking to improve on last year's 5-6 campaign, the Marlboro County Bulldogs hit the field Friday afternoon for the start of fall practice.
"It is always an exciting time of year.  Everyone is undefeated and full of optimism and we are no different," said head coach Dean Boyd, who will be entering his 21st season as the head Bulldog.

Roads Bill to fund projects in 27 SC counties, including Marlboro

The SC Department of Transportation last week announced the awarding of contracts for a number of road resurfacing and rehabilitation projects in 27 counties that are enabled by the Roads Bill, as well as increased funding provided by the General Assembly to several local County Transportation Committees (CTCs)

Board places Tillar on administrative leave

Board places Tillar on administrative leave
A majority of the Marlboro County Board of Education voted this week to place the school district’s superintendent, Dr. Helena Tillar, on administrative leave, with full pay and benefits, effective immediately. 
Along with that, the same majority voted to seek a declaratory judgment from the South Carolina Circuit Court about the length of Tillar’s contract and the legality of an amendment that was made in 2014 that a “super majority” - six votes rather than five - would be required to terminate her contract.
