Dragons claim soccer title with 2-1 victory over Conway Christian
Marlboro Academy claimed the South Carolina Independent Schools Association fall soccer championship last week with a 2-1 victory over Conway Christian.  The game was played at Francis Marion University’s soccer stadium.
Marlboro got on the board first on a goal by freshman Hunter Newton.  Chase Williams gave the Dragons a 2-0 lead at the half.
Conway Christian scored on a penalty kick after intermission.  The Eagles got another penalty kick attempt but the shot bounced off the goal post.
Marlboro goal keeper Luke Johnson made 12 saves in the game.
It is the Dragons’ third state championship under coach Lynn McColl and their fourth in the last nine years.
