Ready or not, it is about time to kick off the 2017 season.  Marlboro County will do so Friday night at home against Carvers Bay High School from near Hemingway.
"It is hard to believe it is game week," said Marlboro County head coach Dean Boyd on Monday.  "We look forward to it all year, but this last few weeks have been a blur."

Marlboro County Sheriff Charles Lemon this week announced that Steve Weaver will become his chief deputy, effective Monday, August 21. Lemon also announced the promotions of four other men within the Sheriff’s Office, three to the rank of sergeant and one to the rank of investigator.

Outlook ‘optimistic’ for county’s crops thanks to plentiful rainfall this summer
Timely rainfall this summer is having a positive impact on crops here in Marlboro County and across much of the state.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) issues a South Carolina crop progress and condition report each week, and this week the conditions fall primarily into the “good” category statewide, with some conditions considered “excellent” and none reported as “poor” or “very poor.”

Escaped inmate back in custody
The man who escaped from the Marlboro County detention center last weekend was taken into custody yesterday in Dillon, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Dillon city police apprehended Cyril Kendrell Lowery, 28, of 323 McQueen Rd., Wednesday morning, August 9, on Highway 9, said Lt. Sara Albarri of the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office.
