Ready or not, it is about time to kick off the 2017 season.  Marlboro County will do so Friday night at home against Carvers Bay High School from near Hemingway.
"It is hard to believe it is game week," said Marlboro County head coach Dean Boyd on Monday.  "We look forward to it all year, but this last few weeks have been a blur."

Bulldogs get mixed reviews for first scrimmage
Marlboro County High's football team got its first taste of action against an opponent Saturday morning, hosting West Florence in a controlled scrimmage.
Like most early season scrimmages for the Bulldogs, the coaches gave the team a mixed review.
"I saw a bunch of good things, stuff that we can build upon.  There were also a lot of mistakes but those should be things we can work to correct," said head coach Dean Boyd.

Looking to improve on last year's 5-6 campaign, the Marlboro County Bulldogs hit the field Friday afternoon for the start of fall practice.
"It is always an exciting time of year.  Everyone is undefeated and full of optimism and we are no different," said head coach Dean Boyd, who will be entering his 21st season as the head Bulldog.

All-stars win district title

All-stars win district title
The Marlboro County Dixie Boys (14U) All-Star team defeated Johnsonville 14-9 to win the Dixie Boys District 7 Championship. Marlboro County had wins over Francis Marion, McLeod Park and two against Johnsonville to win the tournament. Marlboro County will now play in the Dixie Boys State Tournament beginning this weekend at Timken Park in Union. Marlboro County will play the District 2 Champions at 4:00 on Saturday.

Dragons sweep Pee Dee, win state title
An old sports saying is that offense sells tickets but defense wins championships.  Tuesday, the Marlboro Academy softball team proved it could do both.
The normally prolific Marlboro offense was uncharacteristically quiet but the Lady Dragons played excellent defense, claiming their third state championship in six years.
