Police department honors crime victims, families

On Friday, December 15, the Bennettsville Police Department hosted its first Victim Advocate Luncheon at The Skye.
An estimated 70 people attended the event, which was designed to honor the victims of crime and their families. 
Police Chief Kevin Miller commented that the turnout illustrated just how many people are affected by crime, asking those who had lost family members to hold up pictures of their loved ones.

Second air quality test finds BIS does not need to be evacuated

"Based on our observations at the time of the inspection and air sampling, there are currently no conditions that would warrant the evacuation, removal and transfer of faculty/students from Bennettsville Intermediate School due to the presence of microbial hazards."
That was the conclusion of Michael Underhill, a certified industrial hygienist (CIH), certified safety professional (CSP), and president of Elysium Environmental Services of Summerville, who performed air quality testing at Bennettsville Intermediate School on December 9.

About 25 people attended a forum Wednesday afternoon at Marlboro County High School to talk about the school board’s approval last week of a reconfiguration plan. 
The plan, approved by a split vote at the board’s regular monthly meeting on December 4, was to move third and fourth graders from Bennettsville Intermediate School to Marlboro County High, and BIS fifth graders to Clio, over the Christmas break.

Bennettsville Christmas Parade rolls through downtown

Citizens throughout the county celebrated the holiday season as Christmas parades rolled down the streets in Clio, Bennettsville and McColl.  County council chairman Jason Steen and his daughter ride a float through Bennettsville on Tuesday with councilman Willie Gladden.  See next week's special "Christmas Greetings" section for more photos from the parades.
