Tuesday afternoon, Marlboro County government officials and representatives of the fire service cut the ribbon on the county’s newest fire station. The Newtonville Station is located at 1565 Family Farm Road and will serve residents in the Brightsville, Adamsville and Newtonville sections. County councilman Willie Gladden, who represents the area, and council chair Dr. Carolyn Prince spoke briefly to those assembled for the ribbon cutting.

Jermaine Galloway, known as the "Tall Cop" of Idaho, talked about everything from signs and symptoms to what's popular and why it is trending.

Officials at Marian Wright Edelman Public Library will kick off "Libraries Rock," their summer reading program for youth on Saturday, June 9.
The kick off event is from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Bennettsville Community Center.
It will feature pony/train rides, the FX Game Truck, face painting, bounce houses, food, games, health screenings and summer reading signup.
The summer reading program is June 19-July 25. Sign-ups will be June 11-15 at MWE Public Library. No programs will be held the week of July Fourth.

Clio man, teen arrested for Townsend murder

Officials with the Marlboro County Sheriff's Office announced that a Clio man and a teen have been charged with the murder of Verkina Lasharell Townsend.
Lt. Trevor Murphy with the Sheriff's Office said Eric Quennel Jones, 28, and a 16-year-old have been charged with murder, first degree, burglary, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and criminal conspiracy.
Jones, of Clio, has also been charged with two additional counts of burglary first degree and one count of pointing and presenting a firearm.

Owners searching for missing dog after car wreck in April
BLENHEIM — The search continues for a beloved family dog after a wreck in Blenheim at the end of April.
Three-year-old pitbull Mila and her family were in a car crash April 27 at around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Donaldson and Fire Tower Roads.
