Board of Education names McCord as next superintendent
The Marlboro County Board of Education voted 6-2 Wednesday night to name Dr. Gregory McCord as the next superintendent for the district and to allow the attorney to go into contract negotiation with him.
McCord, an assistant superintendent in Beaufort County schools, will start July 1.

Family and friends packed into the stands at Marlboro County High’s McAlpine Stadium Saturday to witness the school’s 2018 commencement. Principal Derwin Farr and superintendent Dr. John Lane presented diplomas and certificates to 264 graduates. Above, the graduates and audience enjoy a musical interlude during the ceremony.

The public is invited to meet and interview the four finalists for the school district superintendent position Monday afternoon at Marlboro County High School.
The four are back for final interviews after more than 30 applied for the position from across the Southeast.

'2 Hours from Anywhere' summer concert series kicks off June 7
The City of Bennettsville will open its "2 Hours from Anywhere" summer concert series on June 4 with the band CornBread from Murrells Inlet.
The concert is from 6-9 p.m. at the Bennettsville Community Center.
Elisabeth McNiel, director of Tourism, Parks, and Recreation for the city of Bennettsville, said the group bills themselves as an Americana jam band.
